Barbara entered the adult industry in 1986 and quickly became one of the leading ladies of porn throughout the late 1980s. She starred in over 100 features in her career. During her career, she had categorically stated her refusal to work with African American male porn stars, although, according to the Internet Adult Film Database, she is credited with performing in at least three scenes with light-skinned black actor Billy Dee. Dare was led to porn by her swinging lifestyle in New York City. She became such a fixture at the sex club Plato's Retreat in the early eighties that she was voted "Miss Plato's".

Dare was one of the first porn stars to sign an exclusive contract with a production company; in her case, it was a $100,000 deal with Essex Video. Dare retired briefly from porn in the early nineties and returned to Essex in 1993 for a short stint in public relations. Last reports say she now strips professionally across the U.S. and Canada, although we haven't heard her name mentioned in adult circles for several years.

Dare appeared (as "Stacey Nix") in the 1992 R-rated B-movie Evil Toons, in which she co-starred with fellow adult actresses Madison Stone and Monique Gabrielle.
