Reportedly a member of the high-IQ organization MENSA, Asia Carrera was one of the most intelligent and accomplished ladies to ever appear in X-rated films. Not only did she have brains, but Asia was stunningly beautiful and wickedly seductive as well.

Born in New York on August 6, 1973, Asia was an academic star during her school-age years. She taught colloquial English at Tsuruga College in Japan at the age of 16 as part of an exchange program. Quite a musical talent, as well, by the time Asia was 14, she had already performed classical piano concerts at New York's Carnegie Hall - twice! Her success in school was never enough for her demanding parents, though, and Asia ran away from home just before her 17th birthday. She was found and placed in a foster home, but she ran away again just before she left for college.

Asia attended Rutgers University on a scholarship, with a double major in Business and Japanese. She started dancing while in school to earn some extra cash and was soon posing for nude layouts. Her photos soon caught the eye of porn producer Bud Lee, who invited her out to L.A. during her 1993 Winter Break to shoot some videos. Asia soon exploded onto the adult film scene and by 1994 she had already been named AVN's Female Performer of the Year. She dropped out of school soon after to pursue her adult film career.

Carrera has also been involved in writing, producing, and directing movies, as well as doing all her own make-up and hair-styling, and doing much of the hair and make-up for other actresses in the same movies.

After her contract with Vivid expired in the mid '90s, Asia began to perform in a few anal sex scenes. At the time, Vivid stayed away from shooting anal. Her first anal scene was in the movie "A Is For Asia". While anal sex pays better, Asia stated that, while she found it enjoyable, it wasn't something she did in her personal life a great deal and had no interest in becoming an "anal queen" in the industry.

Carrera's first husband was adult film director Bud Lee. They divorced in 2003 after a long separation.

Carrera married nutritionist and author Don Lemmon on December 19, 2003.
